What we’re doing:
The morning session is where we’ll brush up on a few basic fundamentals of riding a mountain bike, and advancing on to tougher obstacle-oriented drills. We will learn positioning, balance, cornering, braking, riding up and down curbs; steep climbing and descending; switchbacks; plus anything else we can come up with – or any requests you may have.
Where we’re riding:
We will be riding in the northern portion of Monument Valley Park, utilizing the grass just south of the softball field to work on skills. We will be riding on the various bike paths and trails in the park. We are also going to use some of the man made obstacles in the park for skill work.
Lunch:
We will enjoy a tasty lunch in the park, compliments of the Alison Dunlap Adventure Camps and The Picnic Basket.
Afternoon:
After lunch, we’ll round everything up and head over to a local favorite: Palmer Park. Here, we’ll apply some of those new-found skills on the natural obstacles and single track.
Palmer Park directions:
From Monument Valley Park, head east on East Fontenaro to Cascade. Take a left (north) on Cascade until you come to the stop light at E. Filmore (go right/east). Travel east along E. Filmore and proceed across N. Union Blvd. (at this point, E. Filmore becomes N. Circle Dr.). Take a left on Paseo Rd., just past the golf course (only ¼ mile past N. Circle) and follow the signs for Palmer Park. You can park in the dirt parking lot, adjacent to the horse stables. If you have trouble locating the parking area, please call Alison at (719) 439-9041 or Greg (719) 439-9136

What we’re doing in Palmer Park:
The afternoon session is going to be mostly trail riding. We will be utilizing the intermediate trails in the park. This is where we get to practice the skills we learned in the morning. When we come to a technical section we will stop and talk about the obstacle, demonstrate how to ride it, and give everyone as much practice time as needed.
Conclusion of First Day
We'll wrap up our first day around 3pm.

What we’re doing:
Today we are going to apply the skills we learned yesterday to actual trail riding. We will have the chance to practice on lots of natural and man made obstacles, switchbacks; steep climbs and descents, and cornering to name a few. We will spend most of the day away from our cars and on the trail, so be sure to bring the appropriate clothes and enough water to last most of the day.
Where we’re riding:
We will be riding Buckhorn, Cap’n Jacks, and Columbine. Plan on a 3-4hr ride.
Lunch:
We will meet back at the cars between 1:30-2pm for a tasty gourmet lunch, compliments of the Alison Dunlap Adventure Camps and The Picnic Basket.
Wrap-up:
After answering any questions you might have and taking group photos we’ll send you on your way, loaded with a huge amount of new skills and information.
What to bring:
The weather in Colorado Springs can be a little unstable. Be prepared for sun or snow. We’ll ride in anything unless the trails are too muddy. Bring lots of layers with you in your car and we’ll see what the weather is doing when we get to the trailhead.
