Greg grew up a skier, skateboarder, and BMX racer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His love of the outdoors took him to Colorado in 1987 in search of better skiing and single track opportunities. He quickly adjusted and thrived in the athletic, outdoorsy mountain town of Breckenridge, meeting many people with similar interests. Before long, Greg found himself involved in competitive mogul skiing, Nordic ski racing, and road and mountain bike racing. He competed on his mountain bike in the expert class for several years – winning several races along the way, before upgrading to Professional status in 1995. To support his racing habits, Greg worked as a manager of ski, snowboard, and bicycle shops in the tourist-friendly town of Breckenridge.
After nine years of juggling ‘mountain jock’ sports in Breckenridge, Greg was ready to pursue his favorite sport of cycling in an area with warmer climates. Colorado Springs was attractive, and worked well because of its cycling-friendly climates and trails, opportunities to get back in school, and to be closer to his new-found love, Alison. While completing his degree in Geography and Environmental Science, Greg competed professionally in mountain biking and cyclocross while holding his category II road license.
Greg still competes on mountain bikes in the Semi-Pro or single-speed class in regional and national events. Greg is currently a licensed USA Cycling Level III coach and is a certified Wilderness First Responder.
